Dobbie, a striped hyena rescued in 2010

September 4, 2020

Dobbie, a striped hyena, was rescued in 2010 from a local zoo. He is approximately 14 years old and was brought to Al Ma’wa from our rehabilitation centre in June 2020 ❤️ He has adjusted very well to his enclosure but as a nocturnal animal, he generally only appears at night! 🌙 His enclosure will be enlarged soon so that he has a larger space to roam! Striped hyenas are native to northern Africa, the Middle East and India. They can live to be about 12 years in the wild, and about 25 years in captivity! These beautiful animals are considered ‘Near Threatened’ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and are generally threatened by loss of habitat or being hunted by humans 💔
